I often get asked if I travel much during my job, as publishing editor of World Atlases and Maps at Collins. The response is normally along the lines of “all over the world but only on the map or through satellite images”. The furthest I actually ever get are the halls of the Frankfurt Book Fair where every October thousands of book people descend on this German city.
The few days spent at the world's biggest book fair are usually packed with meetings, which leaves little time for a look around. This year I only managed to see two of the ten vast exhibition halls. My favourite area is, not surprisingly, the travel section, where I love looking at all the new maps and globes.
