Collins Bartholomew is supporting the forthcoming London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games by providing a suite of London and UK digital mapping datasets. LOCOG, The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games have chosen our map data to provide core mapping for the official London2012.com website.
The interactive maps can be searched and zoomed giving a visual framework to communicate progress in building venues through photos, webcams and reports. The mapping also enabled access to information such as blogs and news about the wider Olympic programme including, the Cultural Olympiad, sustainability and educational initiatives. The website has been very popular with 336,000 visits over the past month.
Each year we carry out an exhaustive round of revisions on our London and UK map databases. We use a variety of sources including local newspapers, websites, aerial photographs and information from councils. In addition to this we undertake extensive field surveys to capture road alignments and point locations using hand-held GPS system. Thousands of updates are made and we publish a wide range of products based on the revised datasets.
We are proud that these London 2012 maps will enable easy access to a wide range of information in the in the build-up to the games, in 1140 days!
