The new Heritage Paths website has been created by ScotWays to collect as much knowledge of old paths in Scotland as possible and to promote the existence and the heritage of these paths. Their website is a central bank containing information on all of the usable paths that ScotWays has found out about so far and is continually being added to.
The website has details about known paths including:
Location, distance and type of path
Route Description
Heritage Information
The paths overlaid on modern and historical map backgrounds
Picture Gallery
The maps used on this website were kindly designed and donated by the National Library of Scotland's Map Library. They are made up of Bartholomew Half-inch to the mile maps (1926-1935) and Ordnance Survey mapping. For more information see Scotways Heritage Paths website - NLS Historical Map Overlays.
John C Bartholomew was an active committee member of the Scottish Rights of Way Society (now ScotWays), and was made its honorary president in 2004. For an appreciation of John Bartholomew and his involvement with the Scottish Rights of Way and Access Society, see the PDF from the Bartholomew Family Heritage website.
