India to Create a New State – Telangana

News has just come through from the Indian Government that the process of forming Telangana state would begin soon.

India’s three newest states were established in November 2000:
Chhattisgarh was created from the eastern part of Madhya Pradesh.
Jharkhand (also known as Vananchal) was created from the southern part of Bihar.
Uttarakhand (also known as Uttaranchal) was created from the northern part of Uttar Pradesh.

Telangana was one of a number of new states proposed in 2001. It will be formed out of 10 northern districts of Andhra Pradesh. This is the culmination of a long-running campaign for autonomy. Currently no timescales have been mentioned, we will continue a watching brief for its creation and subsequent inclusion on our data, maps and atlases.

  1. Telangana state was notfirst proposed in 2001.
Agitations for separate state in 1969 were the first of its kind in India. About 300 agiatators were killedin police shoot outs in hyderabad then. Promise of 6 point formula and fair implementation of mulki rules had some how helped calm down the situation then. However during the last 40 years several legal and legislative battles were underway to secure tlangana peoples rights and to curb the exploitation of the region. Still telangana is one of the poorest regions in the country now.
Even 1990's CWC had appointed a commision for the case of telangana, which recommended formation of separate states of telangana and vidarbha.
In 2001 TRS was formed with single agenda to secure a separate state.
Demand for telangana and the movement is intact since the formation of AP. Just like our independence movement saw its upheavels in a discrete fashion over 50 years starting from 1900 telangana movement is active since 1956.
